Matthew 15:1-9 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

In the first Century A.D., the religious leaders confronted Jesus, demanding that His disciples walk after their religious traditions.  Jesus exposed their religious traditions to be vain and their worship vain.

Today, we have many Pharisaical churches around the world who, like the scribes and pharisees, teach for doctrines the commandments of men.  They do so in their doctrine of a monetary tithe that they require of their members and staff.  The monetary tithe is found nowhere in the pages of God’s Holy Word, yet many pastors and teachers will adamantly preach from the pulpit that God requires a monetary tithe from the body of Christ.  Like the religious leaders of Jesus’ day, the religious leaders today will call into question those who do not submit to their traditions.

Because of this, these modern day pharisaical churches are exposed by the Word of God to be hypocrites teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

No doubt, the church leaders who teach and preach the monetary tithe will be offended by this truth.  Jesus says, “Let them alone, they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind both shall fall in the ditch.”

Pastors, buy the truth and sell it not.  Turn away from your man-made traditions that err from the words of knowledge.  Preach the Word, not tradition.  Stand up for what “Thus saith the Lord”, not tradition.
