Nuggets of Truth from Nehemiah
by Ronald W Robey

What percentage of Israel’s money was taken to the storehouse at the House of God as a tithe?

If your answer was ten percent, your answer was incorrect…

It may shock some to learn that God did not require the children of Israel to tithe ten percent of their money to the House of God.

The tithe God required of the children of Israel was to come from their agricultural crops, flocks and herds.

And, even that tithe was not to be taken to the storehouse at the House of God.

The children of Israel were to give their tithe to the Levites in the farming communities where the children of Israel lived. The Levites then were required to bring a tithe of the tithe that they received to the House of God

That’s right, it was only the Ministerial Staff of the House of God that were required to tithe to the House of God. This means that, of Israel’s total male population, God required roughly 8-9% to tithe to the House of God… One tribe out of twelve!

If the biblical guidelines governing God’s holy tithe were to be observed today, the person who attends a church service to hear the weekly sermon would not be required to tithe at the Church building.

Instead, The congregant would take their tithe to a farming community, and give it to a member of the Church Ministerial Staff. Those who had ministerial positions in the Church; i.e., Teachers, Musicians, Treasurers, Greeters, Ushers etc., would be required to take a tithe of that tithe to the Church storehouse. (which would be physically attached to the Church)

However, Pastors and other spiritual leaders will not tell you this truth. They will spin a web of deceit in order to trick you into thinking that all of Israel was required to tithe to the Temple and therefore, you also are required to tithe to the Church.

Oh what tangled webs they weave, when first they practice to deceive.

Today’s monetary tithe nowhere resembles the tithe taught in the Bible

Nehemiah 10:37 And [that] we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.

Nehemiah 10:38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.

The above two verses reveal facts concerning God’s Holy tithe that are not taught in many church assemblies today. If they were, no doubt eyebrows would be raised in bewilderment as to how the teaching that tithes come first is even true.

Nuggets of Truth that we can glean from Nehemiah 10:37-38…

1. Tithes were not firstfruit offeringss.

2. The children of Israel, aka “the congregation”, took firstfruit offerings to the Temple, aka “the House of God” storehouse.

3. The children of Israel were not authorized by God to tithe to the Temple.

4. That which was tithed to the storehouse was agricultural.

5. Only one percent of Israel’s total agricultural produce was tithed to the Temple storehouse…unless a portion of the crops tithe was redeemed. (see Leviticus 27:30-31)

6. The children of Israel were to observe tithing only in the farming communities.

7. The children of Israel gave their tithes to the Levitic tribe of Israel.

8. The children of Israel could not give their tithe to anyone without an Aaronic Priest being present at the time the tithe was given.

9. The Levites took a tithe of the tithe they received from the children of Israel to the Temple storehouse.

10. Only Ministerial Staff were required to tithe to the House of God.

11. Had the children of Israel taken their tithes directly to the Temple, they would have been doing things their own way and not God’s way… which is rebellion.

12. Pastors are not being honest with their congregations when they teach that the congregation is required to tithe to the House of God.
