Three elderly gentlemen are sitting on a park bench.

#1: It’s windy today.
#2: No, today is Thursday.
#3: So am I. Let’s go get a drink from that fountain.
#1: I don’t want to sing on the mountain.
#2: What did you say was sinful sounding?

The three men in the illustration enjoyed each others company that windy day. Yet because they were not listening carefully to one anothers words, their words were lost with each other.

So it is with many people today.

Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

What is it we have heard? That Abram paid tithes of SPOILS OF WAR to Melchizedek. (Gen. 14:20; Heb. 7:4)

The word said Abraham gave tithes of ONLY spoils of war, but because of hearing problems and deceitful words of tithe collectors, many Christians have been bewitched into believing that Abraham gave tithes from his farm, animals, household property, gold and silver, hence they too must submit tithes to their pastor.

What is it we have heard? That Jacob VOWED to give a tenth to God contingent upon God fulfilling a request he made. (Gen. 28:22)

The word said Jacob made a vow (of his own volition) to give a tenth to God but Christians are being made to believe that they MUST follow this pattern today and submit the tenth to their pastors otherwise their obedience is not complete. They have been cajoled into believing that Malachi was a subtle reminder to observe Jacob’s vow. Christians don’t remember that even though Jacob vowed to tithe, his children did not follow this pattern which explains why God had to give a detailed description in the law of the kind of tithes he wanted and how he wanted them administered.

Mark 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

Because of hearing problems, the saints have let the things they have heard slip.

What is it we have heard? That God included tithing in the laws he gave Moses for Israel and this tithe was of Farm and animal produce. (Lev. 27:30-33)

The Word said that although Abraham paid a tithe of war spoils and Jacob vowed to tithe all he got, God now commanded a tithe of Agricultural produce and livestock in Israel. The Word of God reveals the tithe was from that time forward, agricultural and that the tithe was for the children of Israel.

What is it we have heard? That the command to tithe was not given to Gentiles but to Israel (Lev. 27:34; Psalm 147:19-20 )

The command to tithe was not given to Gentiles. So many Christians have allowed themselves to be deceived into believing that God expects them to tithe due to a hearing problem.

What is it we have heard? That the tithes was given to the Levites because they were yoked to work in the sanctuary hence did not get a land inheritance for farming as God was their inheritance. That the priests get a tenth of this tithe which the Levites get from Israel. (Num. 18:21,24,26,28 )

The Word said Levites were to be given the tithes and then they were to give a tithe of tithes to the priests. But Christians have been deceived into believing their pastors have taken over this privilege of the Levites even when the pastors are neither priests over other Christians nor are they Levites.

What is it we have heard? That God instituted 2 more tithes which were compulsory for all Israel and were to be obeyed. The first, a tithe for the tither to eat at the place God designated( which later became the temple in Jerusalem). (Deut. 14:22-26)

The Word said the tither should eat his tithe but Christians have been made to believe that it’s an abomination for anybody to eat anything called tithe. In fact the tithe collecting pastors seldom preach from this portion of the bible. When they do, they focus attention onn the money mentioned in the passage and teach that that passage proves that God accepts money as tithes. In reality, it does not. The tither is to use the money to buy back the tithe and then to eat the tithe before the Lord.

What is it we have heard? That the poor and destitute were to be given tithes: a clear command of God. ( Deut. 14:28-29)

The Word said the poor are entitled to tithes but Christians have been made to believe they’ll go to hell if they give tithes to anybody apart from the Church. That their finances will be cursed if they do. Of course this portion of scripture is also ignored during any teaching on tithes for very obvious reasons.

What is it we have heard? That the tenth of the tithes which the Priests collect from the Levites, otherwise called tithe of tithes was to be brought to the storehouse in the temple. (Neh 10:38)

What is it that we have heard? That the Priests had robbed God and God demanded restitution from them. (Neh. 13:1-10; Mal. 2:1; 3:7-10 )

The Word says the Levites should bring the tithe of tithes to the storehouse situated in the temple but the modern Christian has been tricked into believing that his Church building is now the equivalent of the storehouse spoken of here so he MUST bring tithes there even when he’s not under the law of Moses.

What is it we have heard? That Jesus Christ asked the Pharisees, a people under the law, to keep up their practice of the law of tithe which encompassed the three variants listed above. (Matt. 23:23; Luke 11:42)

The Word says the Lord condemned the Pharisees false show of piety and admonished them to be true to the law of Moses they boasted of keeping, but Christians have been lied to and told Jesus commands them to tithe, not of farm produce, but of all their income. They do not remember that Jesus was speaking under the law to a people under the law because the new dispensation had not started as of then as He hadn’t gone to the cross yet.

What is it we have heard? That Gentile Christians are not under the law of Moses. (Acts 15:28-29; 21:23-25)

The word says Christians are not to observe the law of Moses. (which of course included tithing as it was strictly a Jewish thing that had nothing to do with the church founded by the blood of Christ) They were told they shouldn’t be burdened with obedience to the law. This was the verdict of both the Apostles and the Holy Ghost.

Mark 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
Revelation 2:29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

But because of hearing problems, the saints have let the things they have heard slip

So many today, because they will not hear the Word of the Lord, because they will not study the Word of the Lord, because they will not search the Scriptures to see if what their pastors have told them is so, have ended up being deceived into believing outright lies on the issue of tithes payment in the church. Because Christians refuse to search the scriptures, they’ve become like the Israelites who had a famine of the word of God.

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

They will one day find that they will not be able to hear the Word of the Lord at all. God will allow the Word to be taken away from them. And all they will have left are memories.

Are you memorizing the Word of God or hiding it in your heart? David said, “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” Commit yourself to the studying of the Word. Commit yourself to searching the Scriptures. If you don’t learn it, when it is taken away, what will you have left? Lies and deception from men ready to make merchandise of Christians and Christianity and that is on the increase today

How much more of the Bible do the merchants in making money off Christians misquote in their schemes? How much of the bible do Christians blinded by fear mishear when they think they’re listening? A misquote is not the Word of God, my friends. It is the result of one who does not hear God’s Word. Just as the words that the three elderly gentlemen were speaking were fruitless due to their hearing problems, God’s Word is fruitless to the one who will not hear.
