Hebrews 7:8 Answers

by Ronald W Robey

Question: Who were the “men that die” in Hebrews 7:8 referring to?
Answer: They are the ones who had the commandment to take tithes in Hebrews 7:5, i.e.; the sons of Levi.

Question:  Does the New Covenant Church have authority to receive tithes?

Answer:  No! Tithes are a matter of the Law, (Matthew 23:23) and the only people who have been given authority to receive tithes are the sons of Levi.

Question: What tithes did the sons of Levi have a commandment to take?
Answer: Tithes “according to the Law” (Hebrews 7:5)

Question: What were the tithes according to the Law?
Answer: The tithes that the Law required of the children of Israel, i.e.; agricultural crops and livestock (Leviticus 27:30-34)

Question: Besides the children of Israel, who else did God require to obey the command to tithe?
Answer: No other nation was required to tithe. (Psalms 147:19-20; Acts 15:24)

Question: Are those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ required to tithe?
Answer: No! Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness to everyone that believes in Him. (Romans 10:4)

Proverbs 23:29-31

29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

The “who” in verse 29&30 are the “they in verse 30… not the “thou” in verse 31. The “who” in verses 29&30 are already partaking of the alcohol. The “thou” in verse 31 is not said to be drinking at all.  Instead, the “thou” is told to not even look upon the beverage that brings sorrows and contentions.

There is absolutely no connection between the drunkards in the verses 29&30 and the one instructed to abstain. in verse 31. Nor is there any indication that the person being addressed as “thou” in verse 31 is allowed to partake of any alcoholic beverage.

The instruction for the wise son is to abstain from alcoholic beverages altogether..

Proponents of the “drink alcohol in moderation” doctrine blatantly misuse the Scriptures.

If you are following a christ that made alcoholic beverages, a christ who allows the drinking of alcoholic beverages, then you are most certainly following a sinful christ,… a deceiver.

Let’s see, Jesus is High Priest after the order of Melchizedek.

what type of tithes did Melchizedek receive? Oh yeah,… war spoils, not Abram’s personal household income. If tithes are to be as in order of Melchizedek, they are not our income.

Why was Jesus receiving tithes in Hebrews 7:8?  Simple,… Because the sons of Levi were still taking them.

The Temple was still standing, and the sons of Levi had the command to take tithes of the people according to the Law.

The tithe was NEVER for the Church.
