When studying Jacob’s Vow, God gave me this yesterday,…

One thing I wish all Church Staff would know, (or at least admit to their congregations) is the fact that God never imposed a monetary tithe on the Church.

The monetary tithe requirement doctrine is a man-made doctrine that is totally foreign to the word of God.

That’s right! There is not one verse in the entire Bible that tells Church members to tithe their monetary income to the House of God.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking. You are thinking I am off my rocker. You remember the Amplified saying in Malachi 3:10 to “Bring all the tithes, (a tenth of your income) into the House of God.”  And yes, the Amplified does indeed say just that.

However, if one notices the () parentheses around the phrase, “a tenth of your income” that means that the phrase, “a tenth of your income” is not part of the Bible text. It was ADDED by the Translators. This means that the phrase, “a tenth of your income,” is not the word of God at all. It is the opinion of the Translators.

Since no previous versions use the phrase, “a tenth of your income,” then it is safe to say that God never authorized the Translators to intermingle their opinion with His word and try to pass it off as if it were a God-spoken directive.

It is not.

God defined His holy tithe as agricultural increase from within the boundaries of the Promised Land. He did this for a specific reason. Because the tenth of that land was considered “holy,” “set apart” for God.

Leviticus 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is “holy” unto the LORD.

Who was it that set it apart for God, one may ask? Why,… it was the Patriarch Jacob. In Genesis 28, we read the account of Jacob falling asleep while on the run from his brother Esau. The name of the place that Jacob fell asleep was Luz, but would later be known as Beth-eL, or the House of God.

While Jacob lay there sleeping at Luz, he dreamed a vision of a ladder spanning from Heavens to the Earth. God spoke to Jacob from the top of the ladder, and told him that He was going to give Jacob and his descendants the land Jacob was sleeping on..

When Jacob awoke, Jacob remembered the vision and made a promise to God that he would give God a tenth of all that God would give Him.  Jacob said, “…of all that Thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto Thee.”

God told the children of Israel through His servant Moses that, ‘The tithe is the LORD’s. It is “holy” (set apart) unto the Lord.’

Jacob had vowed to give the tenth of that land back to God. And God was holding Jacob to that vow when the children of Israel moved into the land of Canaan. They were not to fail to give that which Jacob had vowed to God.

Deuteronomy 23:21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.

And so, the children of Israel were commanded to give a tenth part of their crops to the LORD, and also every tenth of their livestock animals to pass under the rod.

Hence, God’s holy tithe under the Mosaic Law was governed by that vow that Jacob had made that night in Luz. He had vowed to give a tenth of the land back to God.
