The Carnal vs the Spiritual

Many religious people today insist that Malachi 3:8 needs no other Scripture to interpret it.

Reading Malachi 3:8 by itself, not allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture, leaves the reader with many unanswered questions. Questions such as…

a) What does the verse mean by “tithes”? The carnal mind will say that tithes are ‘a tenth of ones monetary income’. The spiritual mind uses Leviticus 27:30-33 to show that Malachi was speaking of agricultural crops and livestock.

b) Who are the “ye” in Malachi 3:8? The carnal mind will say Malachi is speaking of the saved in Christ Jesus. The spiritual mind uses Malachi 1:6-7 and Malachi 2:1 to show that Malachi was speaking of the Priests of Israel in his day.

c) Where did the robbery referred to in Malachi 3:8 take place? The carnal mind will say the robbery is taking place in New Covenant churches worldwide. The spiritual mind will use Deuteronomy 12:10-11 to show that the robbery took place in the land of Canaan.

An even more important question is left unanswered…if “Malachi 3:8 needs no other Scripture to interpret it”…

What are the robbers supposed to do in order to right their wrong? The carnal mind insists God’s tithe must be taken to a religious institution commonly know as, and referred to as, a “church”. The spiritual mind uses Malachi 3:10 to show that the stolen tithes must be returned to no other place than the storehouse attached to the Temple in Jerusalem.
