A Coming Fight

Revelation 2:12-17 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

In the above passage, the Lord rebuked and admonished the Church at Pergamos because it was allowing false doctrines to be taught to the body of believers there. His admonition was for the Church to repent or He would come and fight against them.

Today, we have many Pergamos-type churches teaching false doctrines. One such false doctrine is the ten percent monetary tithe requirement. The pastors and leadership of these churches preach a message of fear and condemnation if their members do not tithe of their monetary income. They tell the members that they are cursed if they don’t tithe their money, using Malachi’s admonition to the Priests of Israel as their “proof-text” that God demands a monetary tithe. These pastors and leadership are guilty of teaching doctrines contrary to the Word of God and will one day find God fighting against them if they do not heed the words of the Lord who commanded “Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against thee with the sword of my mouth.”

Pastors are put in the official position to feed the flock of God, not lies and deceit, but the truth as it is written in God’s Holy Word. The monetary tithe is nowhere found in the pages of the Bible,. Pastors would do well to heed the warning God gave to the church at Pergamos, because if not He will fight against them and they will find themselves to be enemies of Him instead of His servants.

Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
