The Monetary Tithe Requirement:  A Modern Fairy Tale
by Ronald W Robey

As a child, I remember mother turning on the television set and the family watching the Walt Disney™ animation “Cinderella”. How I loved the story-line! And yet, it was a fantasy…a fairy tale. A fictional tale invented in order to capture the hearts and minds of children all around the world.

Little did I know as a child that the narration of fairy tales isn’t just limited to people like Walt Disney. Pastors in religious institutions around the world have spun their own fairy tale as well…the tale of a monetary tithe requirement imposed by God upon all who have been saved by Grace through Faith in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ.

The doctrinal issue of whether or not the saved in Christ are required to tithe their monetary income to the local church they attend could easily be settled if Pastors of the monetary tithe requirement doctrine would just present a Bible verse that says those who have placed their faith in Christ Jesus and were marvelously saved by His unmerited Grace and Mercy are required to tithe their monetary income.

I’ve been searching for that elusive verse for three decades now, and have yet to find it. Until the requested verse is posted, I will continue to preach and teach that the doctrine of a monetary tithe requirement is on equal ground with the childhood story that a pumpkin was magically turned into a luxurious coach and mice were transformed into horses to pull that coach.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2 Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
