Read the account of Abraham giving tithes to Melchizedek in Genesis 14:13-24 carefully. As you read the account, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Does the text of Genesis 14 say that God commanded Abraham to tithe?

2. Does the text of Genesis 14 say that Abraham was commanded by God to tithe money?

3. Does the text of Genesis 14 say that Abraham tithed money?

4. Does the text of Genesis 14 say that Abraham tithed his own property and/or assets?

If you are honest with the text and the questions, you will answer “NO” to all four questions. The Bible does not record a command to tithe until God gives that command to the children of Israel in Leviticus 27:30-34…

…and the commanded tithe is to be agricultural, not monetary.

Not only does the Bible not say that Abraham was commanded by God to give Melchizedek monetary tithes, but the Bible does not say that God commanded the children of Israel to give Him monetary tithes. Further, the Bible does not say that the saved in Christ Jesus are required to give Him tithes of money.

It appears that teachers of the monetary tithe requirement have their audiences believing anything but Gods word when it comes to the topic of tithes.
