What Malachi Said

Most everyone who argues that “God requires us to tithe” quotes Malachi 3:8-10 as their “proof-text” that we are required to tithe.

However these same people who quote Malachi 3:8-10

a) do not understand that Malachi said that the tithes were to be agricultural.

b) do not understand that Malachi said that only one tribe out of the twelve tribes in Israel were to bring tithes to the storehouse.

c) do not understand that Malachi told the other eleven tribes (known as the congregation) not to even come near the House of God with their tithes lest they bear sin and die.

d) do not understand that Malachi told the New Covenant Body of Believers in Christ Jesus that they are not to tithe to the House of God

What’s that? You say you’ve read the entire Book of Malachi and Malachi doesn’t say any of what I wrote above? Then, like those who use Malachi 3:8-10 as “proof-text” that we are to tithe, you must not have read the Book of Malachi with understanding.

Had you read the Book of Malachi with understanding, then you would have understood Malachi 3:7 to be saying exactly what I wrote in points “a-d” above. For in Malachi 3:7, Malachi is calling for a return to God’s ordinances.

Malachi 3:7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

God’s tithe ordinance says

a) that God’s tithe is to be agricultural (Lev. 27:30,32)

b) only the Levitic tribe is commanded and authorized by God to tithe to the House of God (Neh. 10:29,37-38)

c) eleven of the twelve tribes of Israel (known as “the congregation) were forbidden by God to tithe to the House of God (Num. 18:21-23)

Therefore when Malachi was calling for a return to God’s ordinances,

a) he was calling for agricultural tithes, not money;

b) he was telling the Levitic tribe to tithe to the House of God;

c) he was telling the congregation not to tithe to the House of God.

d) he was telling the New Covenant Body of Believers in Christ Jesus that they are not to tithe to the House of God

What Malachi said contradicts what we are being told by those who insist that Malachi 3:8-10 is proof that we are required to tithe to the House of God.
Only the Levitic tribe is to tithe to the House of God.
