Live by the Word

If we were supposed to live by our opinions, God would not have included 2 Timothy 3:16-17 in our Bibles. If God had wanted the elements of His holy tithe to be money, He would not have said His holy tithe is agricultural in Leviticus 27:30-33.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 reveals that we need to live by what is written in the word of God. Not opinion…not an extra-biblical revelation…but by the word of God.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

What is written in the Scriptures is for doctrine…this means that the Scriptures are there to teach us.

What is written in the Scriptures is for reproof…this means that when we are doing wrong, the Scriptures should convince us that we are wrong.

What is written in the Scriptures is for our correction…this means that when we are wrong, the Scriptures are there to help us right that wrong.

What is written in the Scriptures is for our instruction…this means that the Scriptures are to train us in the way we should be going.

If we allow the scriptures to mold us, through their doctrine, through their reproof, through their correction, and through their instruction…we will be perfect and thoroughly furnished in the things of God.

If one is wishing to submit to the ordinance of tithing, one must obey all the commands written in that ordinance. Else, as the Apostle James says in James 2:10, one is guilty of all. It’s just as if you didn’t tithe at all if you are not going to tithe in the manner God decreed in His word.

Look at it this way…

If you sent your son to the supermarket with money to purchase corn, and he wasted the money at a game arcade instead, would you say your son obeyed you? Of course not!

So why would you think you are obedient to God when you are not tithing in the manner that God’s word says His tithe is to be observed?

If we are going to claim to be ‘obedient’ to God in the tithe, then shouldn’t we be tithing exactly as He commanded tithing to be observed in His word?

a). agricultural Lev. 27:30-33
b). in the land of Canaan Deut. 12:1,10-11
c). to Levite’s, widows, orphans, and strangers every third year in a seven year cycle. Deut. 14:27-29; 26:12; Lev. 25:1-6
d). you are not to tithe to the House of God if you are not a Levite. Num. 18:21-22
e) do not give tithes to ministers that are not from the bloodline of Levi. Num. 18:21-26; Neh. 10:29,37-38
f) a priest from the bloodline of Aaron must be present when you give your tithe. Num. 18:21-28; Neh. 10:29,37-38
g) eat a tithe in Jerusalem with your family each year. Deut. 12:10-11; 2 Chr. 6:5-6

If you are not willing to tithe as God’s word says His tithe is to be observed, then it would be wise not to attempt to tithe at all.
